Beaches in Helford River and Helston


PORTHOUSTOCK, THE LIZARD

A small pebble beach on The Lizard, backed by low green cliffs. The beach is close to the famous Mannacles rocks and a working gravel pit.

Access: Follow the B3293 to St Keverne. Signposted to Porthoustock. Access to beach is via steep roads.

Character: rocky, shingle, cliffs.
Leisure facilities: scuba diving.
Beach facilities: toilets.
Car parking: free.
Surrounding area: village.
Awards: MCS recommended.

PORTHOUSTOCK, THE LIZARD
 

KENNACK SANDS

Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this beach is part of a national nature reserve. Although dogs are banned from the award-winning west beach, they are allowed on the east beach. This is a sheltered beach with rock pools, the colour and character of which are determined by serpentine rocks.
Access: Helston is the nearest town. Daily bus service (by request Monday to Saturday). Take the Lizard Road from Helston and follow the signs to Kennack Sands.
Character: sandy, dunes, cliffs.
Leisure facilities: surfing.
Beach facilities: cafe/restaurant, toilets, disabled access, slipways, dog-restricted area, dog exercise area.
Car parking: pay.
Surrounding area: wildlife reserve.
Awards: Blue Flag award, MCS recommended, Seaside award 2004 (rural).
