Beaches in Tintagel and Bodmin Moor

TREBARWITH STRAND, TINTAGEL

The beach at Trebarwith Strand is at the bottom of a deep valley with many attractive views along the Heritage Coastline. Rocks must be negotiated before you reach the large sandy beach. The high tide covers the beach completely for about two hours so care must be taken. Swimming and surfing are not recommended two and a half hours either side of high tide. Signs at the top of the beach warn of the dangers. The coastal path north leads to Tintagel and makes a wonderful scenic walk.

A small sandy beach at the bottom of the cliffs which is mostly covered at high tide. Boscastle has an attractive harbour, mostly centered around the mouth of the River Valency. This is not really a beach for bathing but a small pool is available at low water which has been excavated from the cliff face near the harbour entrance. Excellent cliff walks and superb views from the headlands on either side of the harbour.

Access: Boscastle is best accessed by taking the A395, which joins the A30 near Launceston. Then follow the signs from the A395.

BOSSINEY HAVEN

A tiny beach nestling below high cliffs. There is no beach at high tide and only a small amount of coarse shingle, sand and boulders at low tide. Access can be quite difficult. The beach is watered on its western side by a waterfall. Care is required when choosing your resting place as parts of the cliff face are highly fractured. There are fine cliff walks west over Willapark and Gullastem to Barras Nose and Tintagel and east over Bossiney Common towards Trevalga and Boscastle.

Access: Follow the A39 then head towards Tintagel. Signposted from there.

Character: sandy, shingle, cliffs.
Beach facilities: none
Car parking: pay.
Surrounding area: village, camp site, caravan park, castle.
Awards: none.

Crackington Haven lies within the Heritage Coast area.
