A series of four singer-songwriter evenings called Fruit Tree are taking place at The Acorn in Penzance this month.
Hosted by professional singer Kelsey Michael, the first one is scheduled for 8pm on Thursday, November 26. Each Fruit Tree evening will showcase several local acts personally selected by Kelsey for their ability to stand out from the crowd.
Kelsey said: “The idea is to create an atmospheric songwriters’ cellar where an audience can enjoy inspiring Penwithian songwriters with a unique contemporary voice.
“Fruit Tree will encourage risk-taking, embracing new voices alongside experienced professional performers, in a wide variety of genres from Jazz, to Flamenco, to the comic song.”
In an era when so much music is provided free, Fruit Tree hopes to grow an audience and be able to pay its performers to acknowledge the work that goes into crafting a great song.
The first Fruit Tree evening features a short set of Kelsey’s own Song Landscapes, and then half-hour sets from Mike Stocks, Vince Prince and the Flynts and Miss Jones.
Further Fruit Tree evenings are scheduled for 2016 and will feature Ella Turk Richards on January 28, Angeline Morrison and Theo Black on March 31, and Kelsey herself playing a full set on May 26.
Tickets £6, concessions £4 and are available in advance from The Music Box and Number 36.
