August 2014,will see a huge celebration of Cornish culture in the USA as the Cornish American Heritage Association celebrates its 17th Gathering of the Cornish Cousins, from August 13 to 17, at the Zelazo Center, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. If you register for the event before April 1, the cost is $120 (around £73) for all general sessions, the opening ceremony and workshops on topics including geneology, Cornish language, authors and music. Special trips will include tours of areas settled by Cornish farmers and discounted rates for accommodation are available to those attending the event.
“At the 17th Gathering we will celebrate our common interests and the contributions made by our ancestors who ventured around the world,” explains Kathryn Herman of the Cornish American Heritage Society. “The tradition of Mousehole on the waters of Mounts Bay meets the tradition of Milwaukee on the waters of Lake Michigan. Our ancestors brought their Cornish expertise, traditions, and knowledge here and to many parts of the world. The Cornish Society of Greater Milwaukee, along with the Cornish American Heritage Society and the Department of Celtic Studies, UW-Milwaukee, wishes to extend a hearty invitation to you to join us for this remarkable event.”
