Crantock Bale Push aims even higher in 2015 fun Fundraiser!

Crantock Bale Push 2015 is hoping to beat all previous records once again in its highly enjoyable and celebrated annual Fund Raising event in the centre of beautiful Crantock village in September. Last year alone an astonishing £10,000 was raised and distributed in the hugely popular Crantock village event, ‘It is astonishing that such a wonderful sum was raised by the record number of 147 teams in one evening,’ said Chairman Nigel Eustice.

‘Much of our core revenue is provided by the 130 individuals and local companies who sponsor and advertise in the Annual Bale Push Magazine which is widely distributed throughout Cornwall. For which we are very grateful!’

‘Since 2000 we have supported more than 44 different organisations, making donations to them ranging from £100 to over £3,000. The only stipulation is that it must be used to support the people who live in Cornwall.’

The many months of planning are now in their final stages building up to Friday September 11th, when the fun all starts at 5pm with the Children’s races. Then quickly building up to the Ladies and then finally the highly competitive and very popular Open Race. The Open competition is exciting, sometimes fierce but always fun, as teams of four roll a huge straw Bale over a full quarter of a mile through and around Crantock Village.

‘Holywell Bay Surf Live Saving Club will be defending last years record time of 2 minutes 28 seconds for the quarter of a mile course, and have thrown out the challenge to all comers for 2015,’ continued Nigel Eustice.

This year the Fund Raising event is supporting Parkinson’s Mid Cornwall Branch, Cornwall Families Fighting Cancer, Crantock Memory Cafe, Wired Cornwall, plus the local Surf Life Saving Clubs and the Crantock Village Hall. The aim is, as always, to support the people who live in Cornwall.

‘Naturally we hope that the iconic Straw Bale Man, which is always used to advertise the event on the roadside is not targeted and set alight again this year by unthinking, small minded fellons, as happened last year,’ said spokesman Rick Hopkins. ‘Plans to protect it are well advanced!’

From such comparatively small beginnings 16 years ago , the event has grown annually and has surpassed all expectations of it’s small group of founder members. The total money raised by the annual event now exceeds £76,000.
