Ma Polaine’s Great Decline return to Redruth this weekend

Following the 2015 release of their debut album Got Me Out Of Hell, blues and roots influenced Ma Polaine’s Great Decline will perform in Cornwall this Saturday.

Continuing to build a reputation as an unique and hard to pigeon-hole act, with the live show drawing curiosity and emotion with inventive song-writing and on-stage instrument changes, the band return to Cornwall on October 24 at Redruth’s The Melting Pot Cafe.

Described as “like a young Billie Holiday gate-crashing a Tom Waits Swordfishtrombones recording session”, with a sound that “wouldn’t be out of place in a speakeasy or the Left Bank”, their debut album has received high praise from radio presenters and reviewers alike, with all nine tracks getting radio play across the UK.

After starting out in 2011 as a duo, this autumn the live act has returned to those roots, handing back to the songs the space and subtlety so much of the music asks for. Armed with a hoard of new unreleased songs, dramatic adaptions of previously heard songs and with others staying just as they were, Beth and Clinton thrive on taking anything from the melting pot, flouting trends that pass by: not keeping their songs obligated to genres. Utilising a long list of instruments allows each song to get exactly what it needs and provides ear-catching variety throughout a live set, with the only constant presence Beth’s powerful yet sensitive vocal.

Through October and November Ma Polaine’s Great Decline play a host of venues, including old favourites (The Prince Albert in Stroud, Green Note in Camden) exciting new ones (The Bear Club in Luton, Brunswick in Hove), and are especially pleased to gig Beth’s home county Cornwall at The Melting Pot Café in Redruth.

Recently Ma Polaine’s Great Decline were nominated for a British Blues Award as Emerging Artists, nominated for the best newcomer award at Marlborough Jazz Festival, were winners of the Reveal Records emerging artist competition and 2014 EP release title track Suffer It Well was a semi-finalist in the international song writing competition.
