May half term at the Maritime Museum

Show some flare and you’ll be beaming with pride when you take part in the brilliant array of lighthouse themed activities at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall this May half term.

The fun starts with the Life on the Rocks Supersized Weekend on May 23-24, where children can take part in the rescue of a puppet sailor and help fire a water-powered rocket, work with a local artist to create a lighthouse keeper art installation and enjoy spellbinding storytelling with the classic tale of the lighthouse keeper’s lunch.

Also over the weekend, as part of the Fal River Festival, come and discover what lies beneath the waves with the Cornish Diving School. Experience a virtual dive that will take you out into the Falmouth channel and the beautiful maerl beds, then on to the thrill of a wreck dive in the bay. This fascinating presentation will also include the chance to try on some scuba gear and is suitable for all ages.

There will be different ‘make and take’ activities every day from May 23-31, where kids can build their own St Anthony’s lighthouse model, make a lighthouse keeper’s lunch basket and create and fire a rescue rocket.

Plus don’t miss Sally Crabtree the Story Maker on Tuesday, May 26, who’ll be casting her line into the sea of songs and making treasures from her cargo of creativity.

Also every Thursday of every school holiday is Thorsday at the Maritime Museum. Meet the Norse men and women from the epic new Viking Voyagers exhibition, experience living history with Morvleydh, the Sea Wolves and make your own authentic Eric Bloodaxe Viking age coin to take home.

May half term also sees a massive spring sale taking place in the Maritime Museum gift shop. Grab yourself a bargain with up to 75% off on selected homewares, accessories, toys and Frugi children’s clothing.

All the activities at the Maritime Museum over May half term are free with your Museum entrance ticket. For more information on opening times and admission prices visit: www.nmmc.co.uk or call 01326 313388.
