We’d all like to wish our Cornish cousins around the world a very Happy St Piran’s Day. Among those who will be celebrating the Cornish patron saints day are the Cornish Association of New South Wales, the Pacific Northwest Cornish Society and Grass Valley in California. Grass Valley, sister city to Bodmin, boasts what is known as ‘the most Cornish spot’ in the USA on the corner of its Main and Auburn Streets, where the Cornish establishment the Wisconsin Hotel once stood in Gold Rush days. It is here that the town crier will announce the ceremony before the Cornish flag is raised. After the the Pasty Olympics begins, with our county’s staple food being used for events such as shot putting. Maybe we should try it here.
